Getting Started

How do I register to buy?

Please register as a buyer by clicking on the link "Sign up Now" at the top right corner of the website.

How do I sign up as a seller?

Please register as a seller by clicking on the link "Sign up Now" at the top right corner of the website.

Who are the ChinaArtTrader's members?

ChinaArtTrader members range from academics to businessmen, from galleries to museums, from private collectors to corporate buyers. ChinaArtTrader is poised to provide a secure platform for both a Marketplace and an Online Auctions where like minded people such as yourself are able to find and trade your desired artworks thus expanding your collections.

Is there a fee to get started?

It is FREE to join the basic membership where it is FREE to browse the artworks. If you intend to make a purchase or sell your artworks, you will be required to pay a small service charge, please refer to the Member Benefits area for the fee structures. Discounts on services charges are available when you upgrade your basic membership to a higher tier.

How can I upgrade my membership?

From thehomepage you can click on the Membership option to see our membership pricing structure as well as upgrading your membership tier to a higher level to enjoy more benefits. Alternatively, once you login to your account, you can go to Upgrade Membership from the left menu and upgrade your tier from there.

How do I contact ChinaArtTrader?

You can reach us via email or call our customer service hotline within the local working hours. Please provide as much information as possible so we could better help you to meet your requirements.

Which browser should I use when visiting ChinaArtTrader?

The site supports the following browsers: Internet Explorer (versions 6.0 and newer), Firefox (versions 2.0 and newer) and Safari (versions 3.0 and newer). If you are using an older version, please upgrade to a version supported by the site.

Searching and Browsing

How do I search?

The basic search function is located at the top right corner of every page. You can search by the Artist names or Artwork titles.

How do I browse by category?

On the Home page, you will find the Artworks menu where the mouse cursor moves over, it will show All, Paintings, Prints, Media, Sculptures and Others. You can click on your desired category to browse the artworks.

How do I browse by artist?

Please click Artists on the any page, then you will be shown a list of artists, then simply click their names to view their artworks.

Bidding And Buying

Which currency does ChinaArtTrader accept?

We are currently only accepting the US Dollar (US$). You can check the exchange rate at your bank or via the internet.

How do I know what an item is worth?

Valuation of your prized artworks is done by our teams of experts who not only judging from the current market value, but also the past and the future prospects of the particular artists and their artworks. When you upload your artworks, you should give us your desired prices and if that is within reasonable range, we will approve and post it on the internet, otherwise we will suggest you a more realistic price for your approval.

How do I bid?

Bidding is secure and easy. Go to Online Auction, you can then select artworks by categories or by artists, then simply click the BID buttion. Before you can place a bid, please register as a member and consult out member benefits page for more detailed options.

How are the bidding premiums calculated?

Our bidding premiums are based on the opening bid price you have entered when you uploaded your artworks. With each bid, the price increases by a predefined amount (refer to our Bidding Increment Table). Wher you have won the auction meaning the hammered bid, that would be the price plus our commission which is calculated based on your member status, a higher tier level of membership gives you a significant discount on the commissions. So be sure to check out our member benefits page.

What means by Reserve Price?

A Reserve Price is a predefined price set by the seller at the time of uploading his artworks. It is a price where if not met, even if somebody has offered a bid, it will not be sold. It is common to not to set the reserve price high to have a successful transaction.

Can I cancel my bid?

A bid can be cancelled within 15 minutes of placing it, unless the auction has less than five (5) hours remaining. Please contact ChinaArtTrader customer services should you wish to cancel your bid. Please bear in mind to bid responsibly and sensibly.

What are the shipping policies?

The Seller is encouraged to provide shipping details when they upload their artworks, it is advisable to use a quality shipping company with insurance, or ChinaArtTrader can provide one together with insurance.

How can I pay for an item I've won?

After the end of an auction, you will receive an e-mail from us if you are the highest bidder. You will be asked to pay for the artworks you have outbid the other people, payments details are listed in that email. You can pay by either Paypal or send your cheques or direct bank transfer to our bank account.

Selling

How do I list an item for auction?

Once registered as a member, you can go to “My Account”, there you can find the option to add your artworks.

What do I do if I can't find my artist?

If you can’t find your artist, then you will be asked to send us the detailed information regarding the artist as well as the artworks. Our team of experts will examine the information you supplied and make necessary decisions accordingly.

How do I add/upload photos to my lot?

When you list a new artwork, you are allowed to upload up to 3 photos each not exceeding 1MB (Megabyte) in size. You are highly advised to submit quality photos so the potential buyers can look more in details.

Can I edit or remove photos from my lot?

Once your lot has been approved by ChinaArtTrader, you cannot edit nor remove any photos. If in any case that you must remove the photos, then please contact our Customer Service for this matter.

Can I change the order of photos in my listing?

Yes. You can choose which picture to set as the primary display photo of your artworks.

What types of images can I upload? Is there a size restriction?

Images in JPG, GIF and BMP formats can be uploaded onto the site. The maximum image file size that can be uploaded is 1MB (Megabyte).

I'm having trouble uploading my pictures. What should I od?

Most common problem when an upload is unsuccessful is when the image format is not permitted by our website or the image size is larger than the required size. Please also make sure that your internet connection is stable.

What does "Relist" mean?

When a lot is not sold after the listing expiring period, you can choose to relist the same artworks at a discounted price.

How do I delete a listing?

You can delete your listings only when there is no bid or any potential buyers who have placed orders on your artworks.

How do I contact the buyer?

You cannot contact the other members directly, this is due to online security and privacy reasons.

Account Information and Billing

I do not receive e-mails from ChinaArtTrader, what do I do?


Our emails are either automatically generated by our system or by our customer services department, so your email program may have directed our email to the “Junk Mail” or “ Spam Mail” folder, so in case you have not received our emails, please check into those folders and see. If you still do not receive any emails, you can call our hotline for help. Please also make sure that you have entered the correct email address at the time of register and have enough email spaces.

I forgot my login name and/or password. What do I do?

If you have forgotten your login name and password, please contact our Customer Services, and a member of our Customer Services team will be happy assist you.

How do I change my password?

Go to My Account, and select "Edit Password" to change your password.

How do I change the e-mail and/or mailing address for my ChinaArtTrader account?

Go to your My Account page, click "Contact Information" and enter your new addresses.

Transaction Problems and Protections

How am I being protected about my transactions?

Any money involved are first being held with us, when the buyer receives the artworks, the buyer is required to examine the artworks immediately for any damages, wrong artworks being shipped or other reasonable means. Should the buyer find the artworks not up to his/hers expectation, we will contact the seller regarding a refund, and after communicating with both parties, we will refund the buyer money as well as the buyer’s premium.
